Britz Campervan Hire Sydney

Took a road trip with family.
Pickup and return experience is excellent - friendly and fast. There are couple steps when pickup and staff guided me step by step; when returning, I waited 10 mins and everything is done. 5 stars and will come back again.

Wonderful trip from Brisbane to Sydney in our Campervan! Van seemed completely new, equipped with everything we could imagine! Some great stops along the way.

This is a review of a Britz motorhome rental experience for my parents in Jan-Feb 2024. I made the reservation and travelled with them in my own vehicle for a month so am writing this based on my own experience.

The good: my parents paid for a Britz rental but were upgraded to a Maui for free. The staff were friendly and helpful. Check-in was relatively easy and comfortable. When we ran into problems, they did send us a replacement vehicle. We had no mechanical complaints, the diesel engine ran well and was quite economical.

The bad: I should have been suspicious when I went to collect the motorhome and there was a broken indicator lens that the staff hadn't noticed. They fixed the light, but I noticed the shower door had a big crack in it and the floor was dirty, and the staff just told us to take photos of the issues and take the vehicle anyway. The first night on the road, we pulled out the camping chairs and found several roaches and an empty beer bottle. The first time my parents tried to use the shower and toilet, water flooded the cabin floor and spilled outside -- water lines broken somewhere in the motorhome, so no flushing toilet. They tried to sleep, but the bedding was unwashed and smelled of body odor. In the morning we immediately phoned Britz to let them know of the issues, and they told us we needed to write them all up and send them an email. So we spent an hour of our morning doing that, then waited for a reply. When we didn't hear by midday, we called and emailed repeatedly for a resolution. Staff were sympathetic, but told us they had no direct line to corporate decision makers, so they had no way to help us - just that we should "keep receipts for water we purchase". At the very end of the business day, we found out that Britz would arrange someone to tow out a replacement motorhome to our selected caravan park. I had to reserve my parents a cabin since the motorhome was not livable, and I'm glad I did because the tow truck didn't arrive till around 11PM, so we had to go collect the new motorhome and check for defects with a fine-toothed comb in the middle of the night. If we hadn't gotten a cabin that evening, we would have spent another hour shuffling their things from one vehicle to the other.

The new motorhome was better, but still had issues. The television screen was broken, the drawers would fly off the track and onto the floor when driving (probably the cause of the broken shower door on the first motorhome), and the reversing camera was adjusted to point straight down at the ground.

My parents weren't given an apology or any remedy other than the towed motorhome in the middle of the night.

We had a great experience with a previous 4WD rental from Britz in Darwin, so this was a pretty big disappointment. Anecdotally, the caravan park staff mentioned to us that they had frequent incidents of rental motorhomes having issues and being towed from their park, which was concerning. For anyone who wants to rent a motorhome from this Britz, I'd suggest putting all the parts through their paces before taking the vehicle off the lot.
